The Art of Marriage

There's just nothing ordinary about taking time out of a busy schedule to have a weekend of focus on your marriage. We have a traditional marriage weekend at least once per year, and this year we chose The Art of Marriage- Getting to the Heart of God's Design. It's only $49 for a leader kit, and you can invite a couple to join you since you get an extra book. It's designed to be reviewed in 6 weekly sessions. We decided to review it in one weekend, and it worked out great. It's wasn't too heavy or too much material. The thing we liked the most about it was the good group discussion questions, and the video material was great, too. It's not a Bible study, so you have to keep that in mind. It's a study, together, of marriage the way God designed it (so you definitely dive into the Bible of course). I liked the artistic interpretation of the elements of marriage, as it made them more memorable. When you have kids and have almost 9 years of marriage under your belt, memorable is important.

The 6 sessions:
Love Happens- The primary purpose of marriage is not to make me happy, it's to reflect God's glory. It's important to receive your spouse as God's perfect gift to you. Your spouse isn't perfect, but the gift is. You'll grow together through differences.
Love Fades- Couple naturally drift towards isolation, especially after kids come along. Schedules are busy, priorities pull us apart. Sin effects marriage. The gospel brings us back together.
Love Dances- We have different but equal roles. Husbands are called to love, and wives are called to respect. We dance together in our different roles.
Love Interrupted- Conflict will arise. We must communicate respectfully, forgive, and move past conflict, closer to Jesus. God will not protect us from what he perfects us through.
Love Sizzles- (this is about the unmentionables)

Love Always- We are someone's ancestors. Wow- what a big thought! We will eave behind a legacy. We must be purposeful with what that is.

The weekend was great, and we enjoyed time with BK's brother and sister in law. Saturday night (after craw fish) me and SK bought finger paints, and with the help of the guys, sketched and painted family value depictions. Mine and Brandon's is a tree with our family values on the branches, and rooted in a key verse. We had so much fun painting those pictures, and we'll frame them to remember our time together, and what we learned.

In Him,
TINK
